WHAT IS THE ORIGIN OF THIS COCKTAIL RECIPE?
When Alain was still in his “wild years”, he lived as a pro surfer in the United States. Surrounded by other surfers who regularly spoke to him about a unique event. One that’s held annually in the Black Rock Desert in Nevada: Burning Man.
This festival always starts on the last Monday of August and ends on the first Monday of September. That day is Labor Day in the U.S.A. The event gets it’s name from the fact that it always ends with the burning of a ‘Wicker Man’.
Burning Man was created in 1986 as a bonfire to celebrate the solstice. A limited group of friends burned a 2.7-meter-high wooden man on Baker Beach in San Francisco. In 1990 another similar event was created in the Black Rock Desert. Around the same time, the burning of a Wicker Man was banned on the beach of San Francisco. That is how it’s current location was determined.
The event is based on 10 principles. They are more a reflection of the ethos and culture of the community and not be seen as imposed rules. You can read them here.
Anyhow, that unique philosophy Alain inspired to invent the DEAD HIPPIE. A spicy, lively drink that is surprising and really delicious. Try this cocktail recipe yourself and you’ll feel “the burn”.
